Cub Room: Kindergarten+

5 to 6 years old

Teacher to child ratio: 1:12

BDLC offers a highly enriched full-day kindergarten. The Cub room is open 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, so no before or after-school programs are needed. The students remain as a group in our kindergarten room, and the only transition is when Dana leaves and the afternoon teacher comes in. She works until 6:00, when BDLC closes. This consistency helps the children feel secure. The kindergarten program is staffed by Dana Cook – a seasoned teacher with an M.A in Primary Education with an emphasis in Early Childhood. Dana has a creative approach to teaching and the caring environment she cultivates, helps children grow more confident and compassionate. The kindergarten room has a maximum of 12 students. This small class size is conducive to individualized instruction and deeper relationships.

The curriculum includes all the Indiana Educational Standards for Kindergarten, as well as a variety of themes that inspire children into deeper learning. Both parents and First Grade teachers, tell us that children who graduate from BDLC’s kindergarten are very well prepared for First Grade, both academically and emotionally.

Thinking back on the BDLC kindergarten program, a parent writes: “If I could choose one teacher to teach my child all her life, it would be Dana. She does such a great job of balancing learning, interest, academics — and she appreciates each child for their individuality. Our daughter’s interests then and even now seem MOST influenced by things she studied and did in Dana’s class: pioneer times and Laura Ingalls, observations on nature, Wiley house history, art museum, sewing (she still sleeps with her pillow she made in the class), and viewing the world as a junior scientist. So at this point, I consider the kindergarten class at BDLC, the best education.” Check out more testimonials about the kindergarten program.
